Green Building Council Indonesia (GBC Indonesia) successfully hosted the Building Climate Festival 2024, an inspiring event designed to raise awareness about the urgent need for sustainable practices. Held at the Taman Wisata Alam Angke Kapuk (TWAAK) on 13th September, this festival embraced the theme "All Tied Within Nature," bringing together 45 esteemed attendees. The event highlighted the importance of nature-based solutions in addressing the ongoing climate crisis.

The festival opened with remarks from Mr. Iwan Prijanto, Chairperson of GBC Indonesia, who emphasized the pivotal role of green building practices in fostering sustainability. A powerful choir performance by Paragita Choir set the tone, delivering stirring renditions of "Indonesia Raya" and Michael Jackson’s "Earth Song," encapsulating the spirit of environmental protection.

Poetic performances from Teater Zat, Universitas Negeri Jakarta enriched the atmosphere of the festival. Through emotional readings of Taufiq Ismail’s works, including "Membaca Tanda-Tanda" and "Sejarum Peniti, Sepunggung Gunung," the audience was reminded of the intimate connection between humans and nature.

Addressing the Environmental Crisis: Realization Sessions

The event featured three significant realization sessions, each focusing on critical environmental challenges. In this monologue session, environmental fighters, including Swietenia Puspa Lestari, Primadita Rahma, and Anggia Murni, delivered insightful presentations on the current state of marine, air, and land ecosystems. These discussions underscored the urgency of mitigating pollution, preserving water resources, and protecting land from degradation.

A notable highlight was the screening of a video documenting a mangrove planting initiative conducted the day before the festival. This act of restoration emphasized the tangible efforts needed to protect coastal ecosystems and mitigate the effects of climate change.

A Message of Hope and Action

The "Hope" session, presented by Andika Danangputra from TWAAK, delved into the park's history and its crucial role in conservation. His speech reflected the importance of maintaining hope and continuing efforts to protect and restore nature.

The final session, "Call to Action," led by Mr. Iwan Prijanto, served as a rallying cry for industry players and the broader community to commit to balancing economic progress with environmental preservation. Mr. Prijanto's call resonated deeply as he closed the festival by celebrating GBC Indonesia's 15th anniversary, a milestone in the organization’s dedication to leading Indonesia toward a more sustainable future.

The event concluded on a high note with the Paragita Choir’s performance of "Ibu Pertiwi" and "Circle of Life," reminding all in attendance of the enduring connection between humanity and the planet we call home.
